I was looking at a Men's Health magazine in the doctor's waiting room
the other day. An article about how to protect your private parts starts
out with a very graphic description of a penectomy. The patient was in
his 50s, uncircumcised, had phimosis and maybe had never washed in his life.
He got a fungus infection that destroyed most of his penis.

And if he had gone to any online forum to ask what to do about his foreskin that wouldn't retract you know what reaction he would have got? The usual crowd of foreskin loonies would hing, use steroid creams etc etc etc but if that doesn't work it's better to keep your dick trapped inside the foreskin forever instead of lose the foreskin. These crazies would rather that the head of a dick never see the light of day... never feel the touch of a hand or another person's flesh... always stay in there surrounded by disgusting smegma... .than lose the foreskin. Bunch of fanatical loonies.

That seems to be the condition of most uncircumcised boys for the first few years of life and in some cases they are unable to retract the foreskin in adolescence and later in manhood. I attended private boys boarding schools in the UK for both my primary and secondary education (as we say in the UK, a preparatory school and a public school, although those terms mean something quite different in other parts of the world). In those days, this being the middle of the past century, most boys of our background were circumcised and frankly we were very hard on the uncircumcised boys, calling their penises "silly", "smelly", "wormy". and the like. In the sex games that were common in those boarding schools at that time, the uncircumcised boys were often excluded or expected to take demeaning positions. Often the uncircumcised boys could not retract their foreskins so we demanded mercilessly that they show us the head of their penis. They were obviously much discomforted by not being able to produce it and seemed fascinated by ours. One boy had to leave the school for a few days when he was about 14 or 15 in order to get circumcised because of problems his phimosis was causing. I remember we were quite shocked by this and felt his parents had been most remiss in not having him circumcised long before. Also attempts at masturbation seemed to hurt some of these boys, and there was one boy who either yanked his foreskin too hard or had it yanked iby somebody else, and he cried out in great pain and started to bleed which really horrified us. I felt quite sorry for the uncircumcised boys then I feel the same today. Parker is right, that in various on line forums the pro-foreskin element routinely advises against circumcision even if the foreskin cannot be retracted. Apparently they prefer a state of congenital deformity to releasing the glans from its prison to enjoy air, light, and human touch. In my view this is pure fanaticism.
